Armenia’s first snowboard contest!

Written by: Erin Comstock

This is the Press Conference Amber and I did to demonstrate to The Armenians how to use a snowboard.

us with the Armenian Olympic committee

We

We went to several different schools to talk about snowboarding. This school here was the Institute of Physical Culture.

We went to the Kentron TV station to do a talk show called "Outline" It is the Larry King of Armenia. After this show and the press conferences everyone in Yerevan knew who we were. Pretty funny

By Friday we finally made it up to Tsaghkadzor the Mountain to teach kids to snowboard

I was in charge of building the 1st snowboard competition course ever in Armenia. I had to design the coarse in the Metric system and go in the cat the night before to tell the cat driver how to build rollers and jumps. This was not an easy task. The driver was an old stubborn man who did not want this contest to happen. But it was fun to design a course!

Amber and I got up at 7am the next morning to put in 2 hours of course maintenance. The night before brought lots of wind and snow. And the old crusty man would not groom the coarse the next day so Amber and I slipped it and rebuilt it. I was determined to make this the best contest the Armenians had ever seen!

The Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch and Minister Artur Petrossian joined us for the contest! Everyone was so excited to see the enthusiasm that the leaders and competitors had towards snowboarding.

This was the awards ceremony. None of the competitors had ever seen a course like the one they road today.. They had smiles from ear to ear. And I felt like we accomplished our mission!

Vancouver to Armenia

Written by: Erin Comstock

I started in the Roxy RV Bus in Denver and visited snowboard shops all the way up to Vancouver.  It took about 5 days to make our way up.  Then visited another 6 shops in Vancouver.  Here is the bridge that connected North Vancouver to downtown.

Part of going to Vancouver was to watch Torah Bright win the Gold!!

Nobody could beat Torah’s score! She killed it!

I was home in Utah for a week before going on my next trip to Armenia…Amber and I were asked by the US Government Deptartment of State to be Sport Envoys/ Ambassadors in Armenia.  Amber and I are the 1st Snowboarders to be sent to another Country and we are the 1st American athletes to come to Armenia as Sports Envoys.  The goal of having us here is to educate the Armenians on the sport and to encourage them to have more of a passion to use their Amazing mountains around them!
Below are the photos of our journey to Armenia and our 1st day in Armenia….

Welcome to Finlandia

Written by: Erin Comstock

I left to Helsinki Finland on the 1st of January to avoid celebrating my birthday on the 2nd of January. I was also frustrated with the lack of snow the US had to offer and noticed that Helsinki was receiving the most snow they had seen since 1973. I needed to get ready for the Chicken Jam in Austria and thought riding Talma (a resort in Finland about 55 meters vertical) would be the best choice.

When I arrived with Amber Stackhouse (Roxy Filmer) we where shocked at how much snow was really here. My opinion on getting ready for the Chicken Jam went down the toilet. I wanted to just shoot photos and get video shots. It was like a candy land out here! Heikki who is filming for Euro Gap 3 told me that I could come out with his crew and try to film. I was so stoked to have a crew to ride with! So here I go….. Oh and for the Roxy Chicken Jam, yeah I sucked!

Here are some of the spots I filmed at….
