ESPN featured an article on the evolution of X Games and the top talent that has emerged. See what they have to say and check out a great quote by Torstein…
"I've got some new tricks up my sleeve," Horgmo says.
In 2011, a group of teenage snowboard prodigies dominated Winter X Games Men’s Snowboard Slopestyle. At 19 years old, Canadian Sebastien Toutant became the first male rookie to win Slopestyle since Travis Rice in 2002. Canada’s Mark McMorris, now 18, also a rookie in 2011 and one of only three snowboarders in history to land a triple cork, took silver. And American Tyler Flanagan, also now 18, earned bronze in his second year at Winter X. Shaun White, who didn’t compete in Slopestyle in 2010 (Olympic year), but had won gold in the event five times between 2003 and 2009, took 13th last year at 24 years old. The youth had made its statement: they were reclaiming men’s slopestyle.
For this installment of Under The Gun, Alli caught up with Rockstar rider Tyler Flanagan to have him explain the significance of the writing tattooed on his left forearm.
Now that it’s officially 2012, ESPN has rolled out the final list of invited athletes for Winter X Games 16. The best of the best will be competing in Aspen, Colorado from January 26th-29th including Rockstar’s Torstein Horgmo, Chas Guldemon, Tyler Flanagan, Nic Suave, Cheryl Maas, and Spencer O’Brien. Congrats to our riders and we are itching to see what happens.
TORSTEIN HORGMO AND JAMIE ANDERSON CROWNED DEW CUP CHAMPIONS AT THE WINTER DEW TOUR’S TOYOTA CHAMPIONSHIP
Third Season of the Winter Dew Tour Concludes with Record-Breaking Attendance at Snowbasin Resort
Ogden, Utah – February 13, 2011 – After winning the first two stops of the Winter Dew Tour season, both Torstein Horgmo and Jamie Anderson set themselves up as prime candidates for the Dew Cup in the men and women’s snowboard slopestyle finals, respectively. While neither athlete took the top podium position in their final today, Horgmo’s third place finish and Anderson’s second place finish were enough to name them Dew Cup champions. The finals were part of the Toyota Championship, which had record-breaking attendance with over 44,300 people experiencing the four-day event, making it the highest-attended Winter Dew Tour event in the Tour’s history by over 10,000.
Heading into his second and final run, Horgmo, age 23 from Norway, sat in tenth place with the Cup just out of grasp as first-place finisher Eric Willet of Breckenridge, Colo. and then to second-place finisher Mark Mcmorris of Canada slide into Dew Cup contention. In the end, Horgmo earned a 93.75 which was enough for him to stay at the top of the leader board in the final point standings of the season and earn his first Dew Cup of his career.
“Physically, it’s been a painful year, but at the same time the best contest year for me ever, and I’m really stoked about that,” said Horgmo. “Today I just wanted to stay on my feet and land my run. I just wanted to do well at the contests. The Dew Cup proves that I did well at the contests this year.”
Willet, 23, won the men’s snowboard slopestyle final with a competition-crushing run that included a switch back 12 double cork to front 10 double cork to earn a score of 97.25. Mcmorris, 17, finished in second with a 95.00 and Horgmo’s third place score was a 93.75.
“I’m so stoked to be out here and put down a run like that,” said Willet. “I’ve wanted this for three years now. I’ve always been on the podium, always looking up, but finally I was able to get on top at the last stop. It’s a perfect way to finish out my snowboarding season and with a win like this. It’s incredible.”
On the women’s front, 34-year-old Janna Weatherby of Big Bear, Calif., earned a top score of 96.00, with a run that included a cab 540, backside 3 and multiple 50-50s on the rails. Anderson, age 20 of South Lake Tahoe, Calif. followed behind with a second-place score of 95.00 and Canada’s Spencer O’Brien, 23, came in third with a 91.75. Anderson’s finish earned her the second consecutive Dew Cup of her career.
“I’m feeling really good winning the Dew Cup for the second year in a row,” said Anderson. “There have been a lot of contests this year so just getting to ride here at Snowbasin has been amazing.”
The four-day competition is the third and final stop on the 2010-11 Winter Dew Tour season featuring men and women’s snowboarding and freeskiing disciplines. Over the four-day event, approximately 44,300 fans experience the Winter Dew Tour’s Toyota Championship at Snowbasin Resort, making it the highest-attended event in Winter Dew Tour history.

Last Chance Qualifier, 22-Foot Superpipe, Final Race for the Dew Cup and FREE Ice Cube Concert Highlight Weekend Line Up
Burr Ridge, Ill. – February 7, 2011 – The Winter Dew Tour brings the Toyota Championship to Snowbasin Resort in Ogden, Utah February 10-13, 2011 to close out the 2010-11 season. For the first time, Snowbasin Resort will host the four-day Championship event, which is highlighted by the first-ever Last Chance Qualifier, a brand-new 22-foot superpipe, expanded women’s freeski competitions, the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals and the honoring of Dew Cup champions. The top winter athletes from around the world will compete in freeskiing (slopestyle and superpipe) and snowboarding (slopestyle and superpipe). Snowbasin is the host resort for the second consecutive year on the Winter Dew Tour, closing out the season with the Toyota Championship for the first time.
Hip-Hop legend, Ice Cube, will perform a FREE concert on Friday, February 11th at 9pm at the 200 block of Ogden’s Historic 25th Street. Saturday features everything superpipe, showcasing the men and women’s freeski and snowboard finals on Snowbasin’s new 22-foot pipe. To close out the 2010-11 Winter Dew Tour season, Sunday’s freeski and snowboard slopestyle finals promise to impress. The weekend will conclude with the Dew Cup award ceremony at The Scrapyard on Sunday night, where 2010-11 champions will be honored in freeski (slopestyle and superpipe) and snowboarding (slopestyle and superpipe).
Unique to the Toyota Championship, the Winter Dew Tour will hold the first Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) on Thursday, February 10th. An additional 100 athletes are invited to compete in this particular competition, based on their Open Qualifier rankings coming out of the Nike 6.0 Open held earlier this season at Breckenridge Ski Resort. The top 15 men and 7 women per Dew Cup discipline along with available wild card spots will advance to this event.
The men’s freeski superpipe competition proves to be the tightest race for the Dew Cup this season with Kevin Rolland and Simon Dumont each determined to take home their first Dew Cup. It’s a winner-takes-all scenario, if Rolland or Dumont tops the podium in Snowbasin, they secure themselves as Dew Cup champion for the 2010-11 Winter Dew Tour season.
Bobby Brown has earned enough points to hold his spot at the top of the freeski slopestyle leader board, allowing him to win it all by placing eighth or higher at the Toyota Championship. However, if Switzerland’s Elias Ambuhl is able to take home a win at the Snowbasin finals and Brown finishes ninth or below, Ambul wins the Dew Cup.
Out in the pipe, Olympian Louie Vito has remained undefeated this season, only needing a sixth place finish or better to win his first-ever Dew Cup and the title of Toyota Athlete of the Year. But the excitement doesn’t end there. Defending Dew Cup Champion, JJ Thomas, is able to take home the title again this year if he tops the podium and Vito falls to seventh. Matt Ladley, currently seated third and only seven points behind Thomas, will fight until the end for the title, knowing it’s still anyone’s game.
Currently ranked first in women’s snowboard superpipe, Spain’s Queralt Castellet can take home the Dew Cup if she places second or better. However, fellow Olympians, Kelly Clark and Elena Hight will not make it easy for Castellet with each competitor putting it all on the line for the coveted Dew Cup.
Another snowboarder boasting a perfect Winter Dew Tour season is Norway’s Torstein Horgmo. Having won the first two stops on the Tour, Horgmo needs a fifth place finish or better to lock down the title of the men’s snowboard slopestyle Dew Cup champion. With two-hundred points to his name, Horgmo is also in contention to become the 2010-11 Toyota Athlete of the Year. Ranked a close second and only twenty-two points behind, newcomer Mark Mcmorris is able to take the Dew Cup back to Canada if he places first and Horgmo falls to sixth place or below.
Jamie Anderson, the women’s snowboard slopestyle defending Dew Cup champion, is looking to continue her winning streak at the Toyota Championship. As long as Anderson performs like she has all season, she will walk away with another Dew Cup title this year and maintain her domination on the slope course, securing her spot as female Toyota Athlete of the Year.
Through the support of Paul Mitchell, expanded women’s freeski competitions were held in both slopestyle and superpipe disciplines at the Nike 6.0 Open at Breckenridge Ski Resort, and will be held again to close out the season during the Toyota Championship at Snowbasin Resort. Women’s freeski athletes will compete in prelims and finals during the Championship event.
The Gatorade Free Flow Tour, the official amateur series of the Winter Dew Tour, will also hold its finals during the Toyota Championship event. Overall Champions from the Finals will earn a pre-qualified spot to compete against the pros on the first stop of the 2011-12 Winter Dew Tour.

The complete 2010-11 Winter Dew Tour schedule is as follows:
In its third season, the top athletes in the world will take part in the 2010-11 Winter Dew Tour, all competing for the highly coveted Dew Cup that will be awarded at the Toyota Championship at Snowbasin Resort in Ogden, Utah. The 2009-10 Dew Cup champions include Andreas Hatveit (Freeski Slopestyle), Jossi Wells(Freeski Superpipe), Jamie Anderson (Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle), Sage Kotsenburg (Men’s Snowboard Slopestyle), Kaitlyn Farrington (Women’s Snowboard Superpipe), JJ Thomas (Men’s Snowboard Superpipe).
“Progression” is the fourth segment from a collection cut out of the 2009/2010 Swatch TTR TV Show series. The 2009/10 season was a year where the game changed on the TTR Tour with riders learning different variations of double corks in both the pipe and on the slopestyle course.
Shaun White, Luke Mitrani and Louie Vito all blew the top off the double cork trend in the halfpipe at the 2009 Burton New Zealand Open and set a new standard on the competition circuit. In this video, we hear from Marko Grilc, Mikkel Bang, Iouri Podladtchikov, Christian Haller, Torah Bright, Torstein Horgmo, Travis Rice and US Snowboard Coach, Bud Keene, on what it’s like to do a double cork and how this type of trick has pushed the progression of snowboarding. Alongside the interviews is footage of Travis Rice throwing doubles at the 2006 Air & Style Munich and shots of Sebastien Toutant, Shaun White, Marko Grilc, Iouri Podladtchikov and others flaunting their double cork skills.
